Why should I consider customized FileMaker solution rather than buying an off-the-shelf program?
If your business does not work in precisely the same ways as all other businesses, yet you have the same software as everyone else you may be working inefficiently? What are the real costs of squeezing yourself into other people’s shoes, year after year? What are the lost opportunities?

There are many commercial software products such as MYOB or QuickBooks that promise low-cost – but they rarely provide the most efficient or, ultimately, the most economical way of organizing your business when viewed overall. Also, they usually cover only part of your operations leaving other parts to be handled by some other system. If you are using off-the-shelf programs, your business model is almost certainly dictated – at least in part – by the way the programs work. This in turn diminishes your competitive advantage , while opportunities (for growth as well as for economies) are forfeited.

It does not have to be so difficult. At NeoCode Software, we are specialists in building software that works the way “you” work – that provides the data you require “when” you require it. We offer FileMaker Pro custom Development services because we know the value of custom software. We understand that your business is not like every other business and we know that custom software can transform your business and put you back in the driving seat.

Our select clients benefit from our extensive skill set as well as our consistency in delivering leading edge FileMaker Pro consulting and development services. We pride ourselves on being able to bring innovation, know-how and a rigorous work ethic to every project we undertake. We make a point of keeping abreast of the latest technologies and industry best practices because we believe that custom FileMaker solutions you acquire now must serve you for many years.

To make a change and to do things differently it will be necessary for you to substantially invest in the future of your business. When you are ready to do that, we’re ready to build the systems to carry you forward.

Does Neo Code Software support the current version of FileMaker Pro? What about prior versions?
Neo Code Software is a FileMaker Certified Developer. We have extensively used every successive version of FileMaker Pro for more than a decade, so we have depth of knowledge of the behavior of the application. We are pleased to make this expertise available to our clients.

As FileMaker consultants, we have the skills to help you with any recent (or not so recent) version of FileMaker Pro, we nevertheless encourage you to stay current and to upgrade to one of the current or recent versions of the product. There are many reasons for this. One is that as a beneficiary of FileMaker technology, we believe that as a matter of principle you should invest in the product and its ongoing development. Your contribution to the future of the product on which you depend takes the form of upgrading periodically. However there are other imperatives. Not only do the most recent versions work best with today’s computers, they also provide up-to-date features, improved power and increased flexibility – all of which contribute to the best outcomes for you.

We therefore mandate that all new development should be in the current version of FileMaker Pro. While we will offer Filemaker tech support for existing solutions (including limited expansion or further development of existing solutions) in the immediate past format of FileMaker Pro, we believe that this should be done within the context of a responsible migration plan to bring your solution up to date within a reasonable and manageable timeframe. Such a plan is the best form of future-proofing.

Are discussions with you about our business processes and our business data confidential?
Yes, absolutely. We place the highest premium on the security of your data and all our discussions with you will be held in strictest confidence. We understand that all our clients are deserving of our care and discretion. You can count on it.

As a standard part of our service terms as FileMaker consultants and as part of our commitment to your protection, we observe secure data handling and data storage methods and procedures and our equipment and facilities are designed to offer protection for your valuable information. This is simply part of our service.

If you are in any way concerned or if you are operating under legal constraints or requirements, we will, on request, enter into a formal non-disclosure or confidentiality agreement with you. This is standard procedure and is available to all our clients as a matter of course.

What options do you provide for technical support for FileMaker Pro?
We cannot guarantee FileMaker technical support unless you are a current client of Neo Code Software with funds on account. If you send us questions which are not covered by account funds, we will respond if and when time permits, but paid-up clients always get priority.

We encourage you to establish an account with us for Filemaker Pro tech support. This can be done in several ways, but the simplest is an ad-hoc account where you deposit funds and then ask questions as you find the need. The time we spend researching and responding to your questions is then debited against the funds on account and when the funds are exhausted you have the option to extend.

If you will require ongoing tech support and desire priority service, we offer the option of a support level agreement. This enables you to set in place a retainer arrangement to reserve a fixed amount of time per month. The twin benefits of this approach is that is is economical and it guarantees our availability to attend to your needs within the shortest timeframe, as SLA clients always receive highest priority in the handling of their support requests.

If we have developed (or are presently developing) a solution for you, it is wise to plan ahead for support. We recommend that custom database clients enter into a support level agreement for ongoing support and maintenance of their solutions.

Does NeoCode Software configure or sell computer hardware or systems?

We sell Dell servers, Microsoft Server operating systems, Ubquiti switches and APC UPS batteries.

We recognize that it is important that the environment you operate within is optimized for the best results and so we take a holistic view of our relationship with you. If we believe that your systems may be compromised by inadequacies in the hardware or operating systems of your computers or networks, we will draw these to your attention and recommend measures to address any shortcomings. We understand that software cannot do its job in isolation.

You are in Vancouver, Canada, and we are not. Are you able to provide FileMaker Pro consulting and development effectively over large distances?
Our clients are located in all corners of the globe and many of those who are located on other continents have never met with us in person. Yet our track record of delivering first class service to clients is the same whether they are located ten miles or ten thousand miles away from us.

As we are accustomed to working with clients in remote locations, we are adept at using a variety of methods to exchange information over long distances, while still getting the job done efficiently. We use email for much of our communication with clients and find that this is an excellent medium because it is rapid, yet creates a ready reference of information exchange that aids clarity.

We routinely transfer FileMaker databases and associated files via email (as attachments) and via secure connections (ftp) using our server facilities. There is rarely a need to exchange physical media. Moreover we will utilize various technologies for remote access (VPN, Citrix, TS, Remote Access WAN connect etc) to gain direct access to databases running on your workstations if the need arises.

As a client of Neo Code Software you will receive the highest quality of service and will achieve results that equal the best of breed, regardless of your proximity to our headquarters.

What is Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting?

Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting is a service to share your FileMaker Pro 5.5 – 16 databases via the internet. Users, who you create accounts for, have access to your database(s) using FileMaker Pro software or a standard web browser 7x24x365 via any internet connection on any device such as a PC, laptop, iPad or iPhone.

What versions of FileMaker do you support?

We currently host FileMaker databases versions 5.5 – 16. If you have a database that is older than version 5.5, we can convert your database to the latest version of FileMaker. Depending on your needs, we can put your databases on a FileMaker Server. Alternatively, we can also host your own server in our data centre.

How many users can access my database at the same time?
FileMaker servers limit how many people can simultaneously connect to the server. We limit how many connections to each database. This is so we can maintain quality of service for each client. The number of users included is determined by your hosting plan.

How secure is your FileMaker hosting?
We take a number of steps to insure that your data is safe. All of our FileMaker servers are behind firewalls. All of our FileMaker servers have anti-virus software which is updated daily. The final, the most important step in securing your data is up to you. You can secure your FileMaker database by using a strong username and password on each of your databases.

Do you offer SSL connections on FileMaker Remote and IWP hosting?
ALL our FileMaker servers are setup with SSL certificates which will allow you to access your database through an encrypted connection. This means that connections using both Network Sharing and Instant Web Publishing are secure.

How long does it take to set up FileMaker hosting?
After you sign up for FileMaker hosting on http://store.neocodesoftware.com/, you will receive an email with instructions on how to upload your FileMaker database to our servers. You will then need to prepare your database for remote hosting or IWP hosting and upload it. Once uploaded, you should be able to access it immediately. If you’re familiar with setting up your database for remote access, the whole process can be completed in 5-10 minutes. If you aren’t familiar with how to set up your database for remote access, we have detailed instructions in our support section or you can simply email or call us for assistance.

If not, what are the emergency procedures?
Yes, we have a 24/7 toll free hotline: 1-888-748-0668.

Approximately how many clients do you serve with this service?
Over 200.

How often is your server backed up?
Our servers are backed up daily.

Our response time for that type of issue is usually four hours or better.

What version of the FileMaker server are you running?
We run FileMaker 5.5 – 16.

How easy is it for us to make backups of the database to store on our system here?
You can use the control panel to close the database and download it via FTP. Or you can pay an extra to have it emailed to you every week.

Do we maintain full ownership of our database?
Yes.

Are we able to completely download it at the end of our contract with you, and ensure that no copy is kept on your server?
You can delete the file using the control panel.

What kind of security do you have in place to ensure the database remains as secure as possible?
Security is your responsibility. This is a public server. You need to make sure your database is password protected. If you want a private server, then it would be completely secure.

How will I access my database once it’s on a Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting server?
After your database is installed, simple instructions will be emailed to you.

Who will be able to access to my database?
As the administrator, you have overall access to your database. Access by all others is dictated by the “Accounts & Privileges” setting within your database. Setting up “Accounts & Privileges” will let you share your database through FileMaker Pro or any supported web browser. Allow “guests” for public access or create private accounts with usernames and passwords for only those you want. Share all of your data or only part of it. Set read-write or read-only privileges. Make changes to your “Accounts & Privileges” at any time, via your own local copy of FileMaker on a Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting server.

Will Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting staff have access to my database?
No. Password protect your database before sending it for hosting and Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting staff will never have access to your database or its settings, unless you decide otherwise. Some customers will grant us access to their database for short periods so we can help with support.

Can I make changes to my database structure once it is on the Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting server?
Yes, certainly. Users with full access privileges can make changes to the structure (tables, fields, layouts, scripts, etc.) directly on a Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting server. This is a major improvement over previous versions of FileMaker Pro.

Do I need to complete my database before hosting it on Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting?
No. You don’t need to complete the development of your database before you start hosting it. You might even benefit from hosting your database during its construction. Colleagues can check your design and data entry can start earlier. Plus, your work in progress is backed up daily.

Could I start developing from a blank database on the server?
Yes. If you don’t have a ready-made database, we can set you up with a blank database to work with. It’s an excellent way to learn about hosting with FileMaker Server Advanced. Simply check this option when ordering, giving your preferred file name.

Should my database be built as a single FileMaker database file?
We recommend this. Database design plus Accounts & Privileges are much easier to manage in a single file database. In addition a multiple file database will cost more to host. So choosing this option saves you money.

How large can my FileMaker database be?
Your database can be any size you require. Your Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting service includes 1 GB of disk space. We find that this is more than adequate for most users. Unless your database has millions of records range or lots of pictures or media files. If your database is very large then we recommend that you consider our dedicated server option.

What kind of performance can I expect from my online database?
If you have high broadband access, performance should be equal to or better than local sharing. Dial-up access performance is also acceptable. You can check performance for yourself by signing up for one month’s hosting.

What is FileMaker Pro Instant Web Publishing (IWP)?
FileMaker’s unique “Instant Web Publishing” lets you access your FileMaker Pro database with popular web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox, without the need to program any web pages. Your database will be displayed in a web browser in much the same way you see it using FileMaker Pro. If you are comfortable designing layouts with buttons to navigate between them, you are ready for IWP. IWP does have its limitations, however our customers find it works well for record viewing and data entry.

What is FileMaker Pro Custom Web Publishing (CWP)?
Custom Web Publishing takes over at IWP’s or WebDirect limits. It delivers more flexibility and performance. However, you will need some experience in building web pages, along with some knowledge of PHP, ASPs or XML and XSLT tags. Your Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting service provides the directory access to build and host a Custom Web Publishing solution.

Do you host previous versions of FileMaker Pro 3 or 4?
If you want to host your FileMaker Pro database’s on the internet, we strongly suggest that you do upgrade to FileMaker Pro 16 as we no longer host previous versions of these databases. But you can use are rack rental services to host your own server here.

How can I pay for Neo Code Software FileMaker Hosting?
